Why it matters: Musk addressed the China-Taiwan issue in a recent interview and, according to a previous report, offered his recommendation of “finding a SAR for Taiwan that’s reasonably palatable.”
“It’s possible, and I even think they could come up with a more lenient deal than Hong Kong,” Musk said.
Musk’s comments were praised by China’s ambassador to the United States qin gang, who said, “One country, two systems is part of China’s basic principle for ‘solving the Taiwan issue’.”
Big Short investor Michael Burry expressed his confusion at Musk’s opinion, tweeting, “I don’t get it. We just saw what happened in Hong Kong.”
Protests demanding democracy hit Hong Kong, a special administrative region of China, in 2019, leading to the Implementation of a strict national security law this effectively ended his high degree of autonomy.
Most recently, Musk’s comments were on proposals to end the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war sharply criticized by a Ukrainian diplomatwho told him to be “F**k Off”.
