
After social media reports claimed there was a military coup in China and stuff Xi Jinping was under house arrest, the Chinese President made his first public appearance since his last trip abroad in over two years.
What happened: On Tuesday, Xi was seen visiting an exhibition in Beijing and wearing a mask, state news agency Xinhua reported reported. The exhibition detailed China’s achievements over the past decade.
The Chinese President was accompanied by six other MPs Standing Committee of the Politburo. It was a show of unity after Xi’s absence sparked several rumors of a challenge to his authority on social media. Some even suggested that he be deposed as head of China People’s Liberation Armyalthough there is no reliable source.

His first public appearance comes after the Chinese leader returned to Beijing Cooperation Organization Summit in Shanghai in Uzbekistan on September 16, where he met world leaders, including the Russian President Wladimir Putin and Indian PM Narendra Modi.
This was Xi’s first trip abroad since the outbreak of COVID-19. His previous trip before that was a trip to Myanmar in January 2020, days before Wuhan – the city in China where the coronavirus first broke out – went into lockdown.
The Chinese president’s absence in recent days was in line with the country’s protocol, which requires all international arrivals to undergo a seven-day hotel quarantine, followed by three days of home isolation.
