
Governor Gavin Newsom (D) signed a Bill Sunday creating a framework for interstate trade, which is critical for California cannabis growers. He signed nine other marijuana-related laws, SFGate.com reported Sunday evening.
Under SB1326 from sen. Anna Caballero (D-Merced), California is allowed to enter into agreements with other states to allow cannabis transactions with companies located outside state lines.
The series of reform laws passed through the legislature reaching the governorship near the end of the season. The move will expand the state’s legal cannabis market and address the side effects of cannabis prohibition.
“For too many Californians, the promise of cannabis legalization remains unattainable,” Newsom said in a press release. “These actions build on the important strides our state has made toward that goal, but much work remains to build an equitable, safe and sustainable legal cannabis industry. I look forward to working with the Legislature and policymakers to fully achieve cannabis legalization in all communities in California.”
Recording sealing and off-clock use of marijuana
The two laws that came into force on Sunday and deal with the Harms of cannabis prohibition include AB 1706 by Assemblywoman Mia Bonta and AB 2188 Assembly Member Bill Quirk (D Hayward).
Bonta’s bill would improve the judicial reform provisions of the state’s marijuana law Directing courts to process case seals and other forms of relief for individuals with valid cannabis convictions on their files within a specified timeframe.
Quirk’s custom offerings Protecting workers and job applicants from punishment by their employer for off-clock marijuana use, making California the seventh state nationwide to take the step.
