VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Sept. 11, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — K92 Mining Inc. (“K92” or the “company“) (TSX: KNT; OTCQX: KNTNF) announces that the Kainantu Gold Mine in Eastern Highlands Province, Papua New Guinea, is operating normally after yesterday’s major earthquake.
On September 11 at 9:46 am Papua New Guinea time, a magnitude 7.6 earthquake was recorded about 65 km east of the mine site and at a depth of 90 km. In accordance with our protocols, operations have been temporarily suspended to complete inspection of the underground mine, surface infrastructure and the health and wellbeing of our personnel. We are pleased to announce that the subway has been inspected and cleared to resume service immediately. Surface infrastructure, including the Tailings Storage Facility, where dedicated monitoring equipment is installed, reported no significant impact. The processing plant reported minor damage to two pumps and associated piping, resulting in a shutdown of approximately 8 hours for repairs. It is important that our staff was not injured.
