
serena williams, one of the greatest players who has graced the tennis arena fell out the US Open with a third-round loss on Friday. As she hinted at her retirement earlier in August, this could possibly have been her last game at the highest level of the game.
As her nearly three-decade career draws to a close, tributes to the legend began pouring in from all sides. Bill Gates for his part, he took to Twitter to share his appreciation for Williams.
“What a run. @serenawilliams will leave behind an extraordinary tennis career that has challenged the double standard between male and female players,” the billionaire said.
This is an obvious reference to William’s long-running crusade against gender inequality and the pay gap in sport. She has campaigned for the empowerment of women and spoken out against racial discrimination.
Gates also said he looks forward to watching her build her amazing legacy off the court.

Following her loss at Flushing Meadows, Williams was asked if she would reconsider her decision. She left the options open by saying, “I don’t think so, but you never know.”
A few days ago, she hinted that she and the game of tennis had gotten too far together that she couldn’t imagine life without doing something with it.
Aside from her tennis career, during which she won 23 Grand Slams, she has dabbled in fashion design and acting. She also heads Serene Ventures, a California-based micro venture capital firm that finances early-stage companies. Williams is married to the Reddit co-founder
