There is one day to go before the big day. All eyes are on the two stalwarts –the Democrat Barack Obama and the Republican John McCain. The lead seems to be clear. Barack Obama is the winner in six out of eight states according to a series of Reuters/Zogby polls. He has in the last 24 hours gained one percent more lead. The telephone poll may have an error margin of 2.9 percent.
Obama seems to be in a comfortable position as McCain is consistently behind him in every poll. He is trying to hold on to the dozen states, which had been loyal to George bush and voted for him in the 2004 elections.
Obama is not only ahead in Missouri with 1 point and Florida with 2 points but also in the Bush loyal states of Ohio, Niveda and Virginia. These five states together account for about 76% votes. Obama needs 270 votes to win the white house but as of now he is expected to win 328 seats. A clear victory for Obama is predicted.
McCain was very confident about his hold over Pennsylvania but even in this state Obama leads with 11%.
It is only in Indiana and North Carolina that McCain can be hopeful. Both are strongholds of Bush Loyalists and he leads by 1 point in North Carolina and by 5 points in Indiana.
“Obama’s lead is very steady. He could be looking at a big day on Tuesday,” said pollster John Zogby. “These are all Republican states except Pennsylvania, and that does not look like it’s going to turn for him.”
