
Twitter Inc. TWTR is stepping up its attempts to censor sensitive content by asking users to confirm their dates of birth.
What happened: Twitter is working to filter age-appropriate content to prevent underage users from viewing sensitive material. Users will be prompted to enter their dates of birth before viewing age-restricted material. The social media giant wants to prevent users under the age of 18 from accessing inappropriate content. reported TechCrunch.

“We are slowly rolling out a feature to restrict certain sensitive content from people under the age of 18 or who have not provided their date of birth,” a Twitter spokesperson told TechCrunch.
Twitter did not immediately respond gasoline ga‘s request for comment.
Recently, Twitter has been asking many users to add their date of birth to their profile. Twitter will use this data to show relevant content, including ads, to its users in accordance with its privacy policy.
Why it matters: Twitter bans users under the age of 13 on the platform, but many lie about their age. A third of children lie about their age to be over 18 on social media, the TechCrunch report said, citing the UK Communications Authority Ofcom.
With this announcement, Twitter may be taking preemptive action to get on lawmakers’ good books, the report said. California advances a law known as California Age-Appropriated Design Code Act, which aims to strictly limit access to online content by under-18s. Great Britain is imminent Online Safety Law also intends to make the internet safer by preventing teens from accessing adult content.
