
Tesla Inc TSLA chairman Elon Musk weighed whether they give automaker Optimus robot a human form was correct.
What happened: Musk’s comment came on Twitter and in response to a thread that addressed the issue Cathie Wood-LED Invest Ark analyst Brett Winton.
While I understand the perspective, I disagree.

Techie from Berkeley Mike Olson tweeted, “‘Humanoid’ is the wrong form factor for a robot.” In response, Winton said, “By sticking with human form and size, you guarantee backwards compatibility with the existing built world. Backward compatibility with existing infrastructure is critical to the successful adoption of transformative technologies.”
Musk agreed with Winton, saying, “Exactly.”

Why it matters: On Sunday, Musk said that the “economic impact‘ by Optimus – Tesla’s humanoid robot – are ‘obvious’.
On Friday, Tesla unveiled a prototype of the robot at its AI Day event and said it will last volumes taken into account in the making of Optimus.
Musk said that Optimus will continue to evolve and that Tesla’s goal is to have robots that can be maximally useful as soon as possible.
As for those machines going to take on a human personality, Musk said, “Once you figure out the core intelligence and the actuators, you can actually put on all sorts of costumes.”
