
alphabet incs Google WELL Google discontinues its consumer gaming service stages as it failed to gain traction among users, the company said in a statement.
“A few years ago, we also launched a consumer gaming service, Stadia. And while Stadia’s approach to streaming games for consumers is built on a strong technological foundation, it hasn’t gained the traction with users that we expected, which is why we made the difficult decision to discontinue our Stadia streaming service.” Phillip HarrisonVice President and General Manager, Stadia said in a blog post.

Committed to gaming: Google affirmed that it remains strongly committed to games and will continue to invest in new tools, technologies and platforms that drive the success of developers, industry partners, cloud customers and developers.
Harrison explained that the underlying technology platform that powers Stadia is proven at scale and goes beyond gaming.
“We see clear opportunities to apply this technology to other areas of Google youtube, google playand ours Augmented Reality (AR) Efforts – and making it available to our industry partners, which aligns with where we see the future of gaming,” he wrote on his blog.
Refunds: Google said it will refund all Stadia hardware purchases made through the Google storeand all game and add-on content purchases made through the Stadia Store.
“Players will still have access to their game library and can play until January 18, 2023 to allow them to complete their final game sessions. We expect the majority of refunds to be completed by mid-January 2023,” it said.
Market Dynamics: Google’s decision to phase out Stadia comes at a time when other gamers have decided to try their luck in the market.
