
Wladimir Putin brushed off Ukraine’s counter-offensive against his army with a smile, saying “the response will be more serious” if his troops were subjected to further pressure.
What happened: In the Shanghai Cooperation Organization At the summit in the Uzbek city of Samarkand, Putin said Moscow was in no hurry on Ukraine and its goals remained unchanged.
“The Kiev authorities have announced that they have launched and are conducting an active counteroffensive. Well, let’s see how it develops, how it ends,” Putin said, grinning.
This comes after Ukraine said last week its counter-offensive had forced thousands of Russian forces to retreat from the captured Izium region. The armed forces left behind large amounts of ammunition and equipment that Russian troops used in their war against Ukraine.
“Recently, the Russian armed forces have dealt some sensitive blows. Let’s assume they are a warning. If the situation develops like this, then the answer will be more serious,” Putin added.
He also said his armed forces would gradually take control of new areas of Ukraine.
