-Treatment with VCN-01 in combination with durvalumab demonstrated an acceptable safety profile and encouraging biological activity-
ROCKVILLE, Md., Sept. 5, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Synthetic Biologics, Inc. SYN, a diversified clinical-stage company developing therapeutics to treat diseases in areas of high unmet need, today announced the presentation of initial data from an investigator-sponsored Phase 1 study evaluating VCN-01 in combination with durvalumab in patients known recurrent/metastatic squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (R/M HNSCC). The data will be presented in a poster presentation at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Congress, taking place September 9-13, 2022, both virtually and in Paris.
“We are encouraged by the acceptable safety profile observed in the sequential arm of this study, as well as the biological activity observed in R/M HNSCC patients previously treated with anti-PD(L)-1 agents, supporting the promise of VCN-01-based combination approaches to devastating cancers with high unmet needs,” said Manel Cascallό, Ph.D., general manager of Synthetic Biologics’ European subsidiary. “Additionally, these results provide valuable dose-finding context and build on our compelling data base highlighting VCN-01’s differentiated mechanism of action that could transform cancer therapy. We look forward to utilizing our results as we advance VCN-01 through clinical development and we remain on track to Achieving several value-adding milestones, including the start of our Phase 2 trial in patients with metastatic disease m pancreatic adenocarcinoma in the fourth quarter of 2022 and our phase 2/3 study in retinoblastoma in the second half of 2023.”
Key data and conclusions in the ESMO presentation include:
- security: Treatment with VCN-01 had an acceptable safety profile when administered with durvalumab in the sequential regimen (single dose of VCN-01 administered 14 days before the first dose of durvalumab;…
