MONCTON, New Brunswick, Sept. 05, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Canada’s unions are encouraging workers to take back their power and stand up to employers and governments as the country struggles to recover from the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic to recover from economic turmoil.
“Different workers may need different things in their respective jobs, but the common thread is always respect,” said Lily Chang, secretary and treasurer of the CLC. “Workers deserve to be valued, and that means decent wages, benefits and good working conditions. Unions help to achieve this and much more. We work side by side with workers, in solidarity and through the power of workers we help improve the lives of our members across the country. Labor Day is a celebration of our solidarity and manpower.”
After two years of virtual events, workers across the country will gather for local Labor Day events in their communities. Canada’s unions are excited to host in-person and hybrid events to celebrate workers’ contributions to managing the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We owe a great debt of gratitude to the frontline workers who have kept us safe, healthy, fed and supported over the past two and a half years. Governments and employers must recognize that without workers there is no recovery. At a time when inflation is rising at a breakneck pace and the cost of living is becoming unbearable, policymakers must take concrete action to ensure workers are not left behind. We should want to see workers in this country thrive, not watch them struggle to survive,” he told Bea Bruske, CLC President.
Chang will join workers and community leaders in New Brunswick in the annual Labor Day events.
