Red Bull on Tuesday announced its first foray into the exclusive world of hypercars with a limited run of 50 cars starting in 2025.
The RB17 road car will be priced at £5million before tax, it said in a statement, with the project being led by Andrew Newey, the chief technical officer responsible for the four Formula One World Championship cars Red Bull designed.
Production of the two-seat V8 hybrid engine with over 1100 hp will take place at Red Bull’s Milton Keynes facility.
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner said the RB17 “marks an important milestone in the development” of its Advanced Technologies division, which is making a car with the energy drinks giant’s logo on the bonnet for the first time.
Newey said that the RB17 “consolidates everything we know about the development of championship-winning Formula 1 cars into a package that offers an extreme level of performance in a two-seater race car”.
He added: “Driven by our passion for performance at every level, the RB17 pushes design and technical boundaries far beyond what has previously been available to enthusiasts and collectors.”
Red Bull is joining a club valued at $13.7 billion in 2019, which includes pit rivals Ferrari, McLaren and Aston Martin, whose Valkyrie supercar was designed by Newey.
Hypercars are a rare breed, with only a dozen or so brands making their natural habitat in the more affluent corners of the world, with Europe being challenged by Asia-Pacific as the leading sales region, according to industry forecasts.
