Sonoma County Prop 48 No Vote Higher Than State Count

SHOWS OPPOSITION TO TRIBAL CASINOS STILL STRONG

11/07/2014 (press release: StopGratonCasino) // Rohnert Park, CA, USA // Marilee Montgomery

Sonoma County has spoken again on the issue of tribal casinos, and once again, the vast majority remains opposed to  urban casinos and reservation shopping.

County voters turned in a whopping 66.8% “NO”  vote on Proposition 48, the measure that sought to affirm Governor Brown’s gambling Compact for the North Fork Rancheria and its Las Vegas partner, Station Casinos.  That proposition was defeated statewide by about 61% of California voters.

This number reflects a countywide poll done in April, 2012, that showed 68% of county residents opposed to the Graton casino. Polls going back as far as around 2004 show opposition to casinos always in the majority.

“It looks like Sonoma County voters haven’t changed their minds”, said Chip Worthington, of Stop Graton Casino. “One year after the opening of the Graton casino, county voters are still saying NO!”

“Let’s hope our elected officials are listening.”
