Long known for developing energy efficient air filters, Camfil has been recognized for a second longtime goal: educating the public on how to achieve better indoor air quality (IAQ). On March 12, Camfil — the world’s leading provider of clean air solutions — was named the winner of the Stora Indoor Environment Prize, a major Swedish HVAC industry award. The honor was bestowed on Camfil for its popular ‘Road Show Trailer,’ a traveling air quality laboratory that has traveled across Europe raising awareness about indoor air quality — and how to boost it.
The award was presented to Camfil’s Swedish subsidiary, Camfil Sweden AB, at Stockholm’s Nordbygg Ecoforum, a conference on sustainability and green building techniques. Camfil was one of five nominees for the award, which is given to a Swedish company or organization that has developed a valuable commercial product or service in the indoor climate, energy technology, or HVAC industry.
Since its launch in 2011, Camfil’s mobile IAQ laboratory has toured 15 countries in Northern, Central, and Southern Europe. Its goal is to educate both the public and policy makers on the importance of good IAQ and the dangers of air pollution. Indoor air pollution is a particular health concern, as individuals spend the vast majority of their days inside, and recent studies have shown a link between poor indoor air quality and worrisome respiratory conditions and other health problems.
In a statement announcing the award, the prize committee said that it had selected Camfil “because the company has taken an innovative approach to increase interest in – and spread knowledge about –an urgent problem area.” The statement went on to note that “effective filtration of the air – before it is supplied to the indoor environment – considerably reduces the population’s overall exposure to dangerous particles.”
Camfil’s Road Show Trailer, the committee said, “is used to clearly demonstrate how filters function, point out the differences between filter classes and, not least important, explain the consequences of filter choices for the energy consumption of air handling units and ventilation systems.”
Both sustainability and health have been long-time priorities for Camfil. Using innovative, high-efficiency designs, its commercial air filters use less energy and last longer than traditionally designed filters, maintaining peak efficiency throughout their service life. That means less impact on the environment and healthier indoor air. It also means lower total cost of ownership. Indeed, by switching to Camfil air filters, many customers have been able to achieve HVAC energy savings of 25 to 50 percent.
“Camfil is very pleased to receive this prestigious prize in our home country of Sweden, which recognizes our efforts to educate the general public and policymakers about the importance of maintaining good air quality through effective filtration,” says Erik Markman, Vice President for Communication, Camfil Group. “Through our Road Show Trailer and other initiatives, we aim to explain how differences in filters make a difference for the indoor air we breathe.”
The world leader in air filtration systems, Camfil provides clean air solutions for hospitals, hotels, office buildings, educational institutions, and pharmaceutical and biotech companies. We provide the tools to achieve sustainability, maintain high air quality, and reduce airborne infections — all while lowering total cost of ownership.
