Continuing its commitment to innovation and sustainability, Camfil Farr — the world’s leading provider of clean air solutions — has opened a new high-tech global research center in Sweden. The facility, one of the largest in the world dedicated to the development of air filters, clean air solutions, and technologies for air filter production, is located in the coastal town of Trosa, 70 kilometers south of Stockholm.

Long a champion — and industry pioneer — in sustainable design, Camfil Farr has launched, over the years, an array of air filters, software tools, and other products that help customers reduce energy costs while improving indoor air quality (IAQ). Research facilities such as the center in Trosa enable Camfil Farr engineers to develop and test innovative new designs that enhance the ability of customers to combine savings with performance.

The 2,500-square-meter R&D center is equipped with the latest in laboratory and research equipment, allowing Camfil Farr to meet the continuing, and growing, need for air filtration solutions that safeguard health while satisfying stricter energy efficiency standards. The facility’s resources include a Molecular Lab for filtration systems to eliminate airborne molecular contamination; a Gas Turbine and Air Pollution Control Lab for turbine filters and dust collection solutions; a Process Development Workshop used to design proprietary filter production equipment; and two Particle Labs for comfort and HEPA filter research.

By facilitating research into new polymer technology — for developing new and more effective air filter material — the Trosa center will also help Camfil Farr meet emerging needs for high-tech filtration using the latest nano-fiber technology. Meanwhile air filtration experts working out of the facility’s Indoor Air Quality Lab (equipped with a scanning electron microscope and energy dispersive spectrometry equipment) will analyze filter performance and air quality — and how IAQ impacts human health. Such knowledge will help Camfil Farr in developing next-generation clean air solutions.

The opening ceremony for the new research center, held in late October, was hosted by Anders Freyschuss, Managing Director of Camfil Farr Sweden and Anders Sundvik, Camfil Farr’s Vice President for R&D. Per Westerberg, Speaker of the Swedish Riksdag, inaugurated the facility. Also on hand for the event was Camfil Farr’s unique “Road Show” trailer, a mobile lab and exhibition that has been touring Europe spreading the word about the importance of air filtration and the benefits for IAQ and health – all in line with Camfil Farr’s vision to make clean air a human right.

The new center will serve as the hub of Camfil Farr’s global R&D network, which employs approximately 60 filtration experts and lab technicians at facilities in France, Germany, Sweden, India, Malaysia, China, Canada, and the United States. Together, these facilities research and develop a broad range of air filters and clean air solutions, including those designed for use in industrial processes, for air pollution control (dust collection), and in nuclear facilities and containment.

“R&D on this scale maximizes value for customers,” commented Camfil Farr’s Anders Sundvik during the opening ceremony. “Our philosophy for the past 50 years is to use innovation and entrepreneurship to develop air filters that are more

energy-efficient, better for manufacturing processes, and better for the health and well-being of individuals. That isn’t just a commitment at Camfil Farr — it’s a priority.”
