Background-checks are a good tool for employers when narrowing down their choices from a mound of applications, but employers need to beware when choosing their provider. Some companies are making a fortune off shoddy and incorrect records, which are ultimately hurting job seekers. It may be in an employer’s best interest to ask an applicant to verify his or her criminal history to ensure that someone else’s record didn’t appear, explains Eric Grover, a California employment lawyer.
