August 25, 2010 – Orlando, FL – (WiredPRNews) Recently, Facebook has rolled out their new Facebook Places Profiles in effort to keep pace with mobile check in competitors like FourSquare and Gowalla. Facebook Places will allow users to check in at businesses with Facebook Places Profiles from their mobile phones, share their location with friends and discount offers or incentives.

The roll out of Facebook Places has huge potential for businesses and advertisers. With Facebook’s reach across 500+ million users, the exposure and ability to create name recognition for local companies within their current customer’s sphere of influence is priceless.

Since Facebook Places is still in development, businesses will likely need to create a Places Profile for their location. These Facebook Places Pages can then be merged with companies existing Business Pages for increased functionality and richer design features.

To create a new place, follow these six easy steps:

1. Access the Facebook Places application on your mobile phone.

2. Click “Check In.”

3. Click the “Add” button to the left of the Place Names search box.

4. Enter a name for the new Place as well as an optional description of it.

5. Click the “Add” button at the bottom right of the page.

6. Click the “Check In” button to share your visit.

Once your business has been added to Facebook Places you will need to log into Facebook and claim the business by clicking the “Is this your business?” link. Follow the simple instructions to claim your Place.

After you have been authorized as the owner of your business on Facebook Places, you will receive a prompting from Facebook to merge your Places Profile and existing Business Page. This step is optional and should only be preformed if the Business Page represents a single store location. If you decide to merge pages, you will be able to manage your business centrally on Facebook to include posting status updates, photos, and links. Additionally, all of the people who “liked” your Facebook Page will remain connected to your business for continued interacting and the bonus of access to Places information.

Internet marketing using Facebook and other social media sites like Twitter and LinkedIn has been proven to positively impact companies and aid in online exposure.
