Most families with autistic kids are facing financial strains as they find their resources dwindling with expenses mounting. Parents are a worried lot wondering about job prospects for their children and their future care long after they are gone. The survey conducted by Easter Seals shows that families with fairly good sources of income were not so stressed, those who were not so financially well off are worried about future care for their autism children.
Children with special needs require therapy, which insurance doesn’t cover. Parents are faced with the dilemma of having to quit their jobs just to care for their special children, which could have a financial strain on the family’s resources. Patricia Williams, Director of Autism services for Easter Seals opines that Autism is much different form other disabilities and needs special care.
Those with physical disabilities like the blind require only Braille signs to help them get on with life, or those using wheel chairs need ramps to help them move. Autism children are different. Their disability involves lack of communicating skills that prevents them from exhibiting normal social behavior. People with autism rarely look in the eyes of other when they communicate and this becomes socially unacceptable to many people.
Parents with autism kids need to plan for the future of their children. Developing a positive attitude visualizing a great life for their children is necessary. Workshops to help parents with autism children are to be held beginning January by Easter Seals. Parents attending these workshops can acquire skills to help their autism kids to lead successful lives in future.
