At least one person was injured and the presence of blue plastic was confirmed in the lean cuisine brand of frozen foods according to a report from USDA.
Frozen chicken dinners from Lean Cuisine had chunks of small blue colored plastic pieces. This resulted in the recalling of 900,000 pounds of meals by Nestle Prepared Foods Co.
One person was reportedly injured due to the frozen dinner which has so far been distributed throughout the nation, says the food safety and inspection service of the US Department of Agriculture.
Nestle Prepared Foods spokeswoman Roz O’Hearn said however that no injury was reported which needed medical aid. Dinners in which the blue plastic chunks were found so far include the Lean Cuisine’s Dinnertime Selects Chicken Tuscan, Spa Cuisine Chicken Mediterranean and Café Classics Pesto Chicken with Bow Tie Pasta according to O’Hearn. She also added that so far the company has received seven complaints from consumers.
Chunks of this blue plastic has been classified and recalled under the Class I threat by the USDA which states that the situation is hazardous to health and using the product will result in adverse and serious health conditions which may even cause death.
A spokeswoman from USDA, Amanda Eamich said that a piece of plastic is dangerous enough and could cut or scratch your mouth or throat.
Problem occurred in the dinners that were produced between August 18th and October 27th this year. USDA has provided consumers with a list of production codes to check for contamination.
