There is a lot of frustration and confusion with over crowding in buses due to the hardship plan of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. People are describing the scenario as doomsday as a number of bus routes have been scrapped, services have been drastically reduced and certain subway lines have even faded out.
Weekends look dull and ordinary and its actually doomsday for New York. Subways always posed problems for weekend travelers in New York who faced uncertainty on whether they will actually be taken to their destination.
Trains, which are extremely unreliable sometimes, do not appear at all, if they appear they do not stop at stations and if at all they stop they do so ahead of their terminuses. Due to this, a lot of people are forced to board shuttle buses, which are unfamiliar.
People now have to put up with much lesser facilities than what they are used to.
Even weekdays will see transportation authority reducing on their services on certain lines and hiking fares too if the latest proposals take effect.
Bridge tolls and transit fares are set for a hike too and it will not be surprising if the bus and subway base fair rises to $2.50. Transit riders in New York are going to face tough times ahead and are already experiencing the feeling of having been beaten down.
Thursday saw officials getting together at the board meeting to discuss plans. In spite of it being a working day, quite a few people including activists turned up to give their opinion on what they think of the proposals.
