According to US researcher’s report on Tuesday, autism affected children in the wettest countries located to the Northwest of America.
Autism is a condition resulting from social and learning disabilities and Cornell University’s Micheal Waldman and his colleagues have been trying to find a relationship between this condition in children and the environment.
Various agencies from the County and State including Oregon, California, Washington, etc provided them with details of children born in their area between the years 1987 and 1999. According to their report published in the Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, there was a definite relationship between the amount of precipitation between the years 1987 and 2001 and the prevalent autism in school going children in Washington, Oregon and California.
Doubt was however raised by a physician from London Dr.Micheal Fitzpatrick, the author of a book on autism called “Defeating Autism: A Damaging Delusion”. He said that irrespective of the climate, autism was generally on the rise.
Symptoms of autism include retarded mental health and cringing away from repetitive behavior socially while the causes for the condition are not exactly known. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention statistics, the condition of autism or related conditions including Asperger’s Syndrome, is prevalent in one in every 150 children. This center has a lot of studies underway to determine the causes and effects of this condition in children.
Genetic causes cannot be ruled out according to some doctors. Theories speculate that certain conditions in the womb and even environmental conditions can be the cause of autism and the recent research complements this theory.
