Cindy Donovan is one among many Americans who are without a job and insurance at the age of 50. Cindy is a major cause for healthcare issues featuring in proposals put forth by presidential candidates.
Both McCain and Obama have promised measures to reduce the number of people who are uninsured and to reduce on the costs. While both their proposals are laid out in detail, they fundamentally differ.
Plan laid out by McCain is based on a restructuring of the tax code. This would encourage buying of health insurance by people individually rather than by their employers.
Obama on the other hand has laid out a detailed proposal list which will enable more people to obtain health insurance. Though his campaign claims this will make the system more efficient, it comes at a very steep price. While both plans are strong in certain aspects they lack in detail and include certain flaws. And both are expensive.
While both the candidates address the issue of affordable insurance for Americans, no mention is made of the immigrants, both legal and illegal who are uninsured and number at least 12 million. Flaws in the US health care system have been highlighted and proposals for improvising the system have been addressed by both. These include emphasizing prevention, treatment of chronic diseases and providing continuing care, human information technology adoption and focus on wellness, researching on different treatment methods and keeping people sufficiently informed on the quality of health care provided along with the cost factor.
