This is the most deadly form of cancer for men. It is often fatal if you are above 50 then this month is one of the most dangerous ones. For this reason the month of September is called the National Prostrate Cancer Awareness Month. Dr James Schwade, who is the CEO of the Florida based Morse CyberKnife Centers talked extensively on this in an exclusive interview with CaymanMama.com.
He revealed that every year one out of six men suffer from prostrate cancer. It is next only to skin cancer in frequency and often proves to be fatal for men. It is predicted that 186000 more cases of prostrate cancer would be detected in The USA and the African American men would be more affected by this. The picture for New jersey is bad with an expected toll of 800 and 5,000 more cases likely to be detected..
Prostate cancer has been described as a “disease in which cancer develops in the prostate, a gland in the male reproductive system. It occurs when cells of the prostate mutate and begin to multiply out of control. These cells may spread (metastasize) from the prostate to other parts of the body, especially the bones and lymph nodes. Prostate cancer may cause pain, difficulty in urinating, erectile dysfunction and other symptoms.”
In order to treat it successfully it is imperative to treat it in time. In the advanced stages the following symptoms become prominent like frequent urination, aching bones or even blood in the urine. Any change in urine habits should be reported immediately to the doctor. If need be a urologist should be consulted. A PSA (Prostrate Specific Antigen) and a DRE (Digital rectum Exam) is done to check if there is a tumor growth.
