LOS ANGELES (REUTERS): Cloris Leachman, who is an octogenarian actress, has now joined the famous list of those celebrities who will now grace the floor of the ballroom in the upcoming edition of the hit “ Dancing with the Stars” by ABC Television.
Leachman, 82, bagged an Oscar for her supporting role in “The Last Picture Show” in 1971 and a Primetime Emmy Champion record for the TV work. She will be the oldest contestant who will compete on the second most watched American series.
According to a Walt Disney Co- owned source, the earlier senior ranking celebrity to appear on the show was the great actor George Hamilton. He strutted in the show at the age of 66 in the second season in the early 2006.
Leachman is presently touring in the one-woman show of hers, “Cloris!” and has just finished work in 3 new films. She gathered the 8th Primetime Emmy in 2006 that is the highest to be earned by one actress so far. She surpassed the 7 Emmys won by Mary Taylor Moore. On Moore’s show, Cloris Leachman had become a common household name for her very significant role as the self absorbed Phyllis in 1970s.
Cloris is also remembered for the memorable performance as a heavy accented Frau Blucher. It was a role in the classic horror-spoof, “Young Frankenstein” by Mel Brook.
Susan Lucci, will join the “Dancing with the Stars” this fall with Leachman. She is among the biggest of the Emmy bridesmaids and stars as a self styled media-mogul and vixen entrepreneur Erica Kane in “All My Children”. In November, Susan Lucci will celebrate the 10,000th episode of “All My Children”, the day time soap opera. Lucci earned the Daytime Emmy for the best actress, 1999 after 18 years of constant nomination.
