Latisse is a drug which was inspired by its uses for Glaucoma. It was found to promote darker, longer and thicker eyelashes.
According to the company that manufactures Latisse, Allergan, this drug has been approved by the FDA to be used for growth of eyelash. The first quarter of the year 2009 will see this drug being made available on prescription. Latisse will have as an ingredient, Lumigan, which is a glaucoma drug, also manufactured by Allergan.
Growth of eyelashes was found to be an interesting side effect of Lumigan. Latisse will have to be applied along the eyelash, especially on the upper eyelids, while Lumigan is an eye drop.
According to Allergan, using Latisse will show results in just about eight weeks. Difference can be made out in the eye lashes which will be fuller, longer and darker. A complete transformation of eyelashes will be evident in sixteen week’s time, according to them. Once the usage of Latisse is terminated, eyelashes will gradually return back to their normal size, with the growth of new eyelashes.
The skin around the eyelid may become darker with usage of Latisse. Allergan says that however this condition is reversible. They also said the colored part of the eye caused by brown pigmentation will remain permanent.
Skin areas around the lashes have to be carefully blotted out while applying Latisse to prevent unnecessary hair growth, according to Allergan. They also said clinical trials of Latisse were well tolerated and the most common side effects include hyper pigmentation of the skin, itching of eyes and redness.
