Estimates are that 1 in 4 Americans will come down with some sort of food-borne illness each year, but efforts to overhaul the country’s weak food safety regulation are being quashed by forces in the Republican party. As long as food safety regulation remains lax, habitual food-safety violators can continue to endanger the food supply.
