While ardent face book users were expecting Twitter to launch its micro-blogging service with “Face Book Connect” Twitter co founder Biz Stone did a turn around and instead decided to integrate its micro blogging services with Google’s Friend Connect. With this integration, account holders of Twitter can use their login ID on any site that is integrated with Google Friend Connect, while Google account holders can use their Google ID to sign up for Twitter’s services.
With face book also launching a similar service to its users, account holders can log into their accounts across the internet. Google (GOOG) and Face book insist on their users signing up for the “Connect” services to enable them to keep a closer watch on their users and their behavior across the web. With knowledge about user behavior, both companies will learn how to increase their profits with ads and ad networks.
Twitter was offered $100 million in cash and $400 million as Face book stock options by Face book as part of the deal in early fall. However, Twitter negated the deal. Looks like Twitter preferred to integrate with Google rather than Face book.
Google’s official blog states that those who are currently signed up with Twitter are free to join Google’s Friend Connect service using their twitter account. Here at Friend Connect, twitter users will discover all their twitter friends.
When Twitter gets integrated with Google’s Friend Connect, it allows Twitter members greater reach on the internet.
