/EINPresswire.com/ Human Rights Watch Laos continues to plead with H.E. Mr Barack Obama, President of the United States of America, and H.E. Mrs Hillary Rodham Clinton, Secretary of State of United States of America to assist with the following agendas noted below:
1.To persuade the Lao’s Prime Minister, Mr Bouasone Bouphavahn, to retract his comments made during the ASEAN summit with regards to the country not making any plans to introduce a multi-party democracy.
2.To encourage the Lao PDR and its Government to implement and draft a multiparty election process that is a democratic electoral system under the monitoring of the international community, with a focus on national reconciliation by the National Assembly elections scheduled to be held in 2012.
Further, it has been noted that although Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Lao Deputy Prime Minister Dr Thongloun Sisoulith met on 13 July 2010 at the 55th anniversary year of bilateral diplomatic relations for a cordial and productive discussions of common interests in the Southeast Asian region and growing areas of bilateral cooperation, the meeting still fell short of expectations.
This is attributable to the issue surrounding the initial arrests of the 9 Laotians whom were arrested in November 2009 and their current status of well being is yet to be confirmed. Since their arrest, Amnesty International has not received any information with regards to those 9 arrests. Uncertainty still looms as to whether they are detained in jail or have been killed.
As a result, Human Rights Watch Laos urges the Lao PDR government to immediately release the 9 prisons unconditionally.
