Queens, NY – A woman has accused Queens police officers of police brutality, claiming a June 4 incident at her home led to an officer throwing her into a doorknob and knocking her eye out, as reported by New York Daily News.
Queens officers responded to a call from Jacqueline Deravin, now 66, on the night of June 4, after she claimed she was being threatened by her daughter’s ex-boyfriend. Deravin is a former jailguard who uses a walker.
The woman claims that an officer walked into her residence, yanked her off a bed and tossed her into a doorknob, she stated, “My eye fell out onto my cheek.”
Deravin now wears a patch over her right eye as she waits for surgery to repair it.
Cops claim that Deravin was pointing a gun at her daughter’s ex when they got to the scene. They claim she was yelling, “I am going to kill you. Nobody’s going to leave here tonight!” Police report that they had to wrestle the gun from her.
Police charged the 66-year-old woman who requires the aid of a walker with resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, harassment and menacing.
Her lawyer is obviously disputing the charges, and told the Queens court, “She’s in a walker and she’s going to be resisting arrest? It doesn’t make sense.”
The attorney is seeking a grand jury to investigate the charges of police brutality.
