
Those of Microsoft Corporation MSFT Social network platform LinkedIn has introduced new profile features to detect and remove fake accounts.
What happened: On Tuesday, LinkedIn rolled out a number of features while strengthening its automated system to “keep inauthentic profiles and activities off the platform.”
Most notably, the About This Profile feature allows users to check when a profile was created and last updated. Users can also determine if the member they wish to interact with has a verified phone number and/or work email address associated with their account.
Additionally, the platform has launched a feature that deals with AI-generated profile photos that are used to create fake accounts that might appear authentic.
LinkedIn also warns users about suspicious messages that contain high-risk content.
“We can warn you about messages asking you to take the conversation to another platform as it may be a sign of a scam,” it said Oscar RodriguezVice President, Product Management at LinkedIn, in a blog post.
Why it matters: In recent months, LinkedIn has been surrounded by multiple fraudulent activities and threats on the platform.
Earlier this month, several LinkedIn profiles indicated they were employed apple inc AAPL and Amazon.com Inc. AMZN were culled overnight.
In June, an FBI special agent warned LinkedIn members against active cryptocurrency investments scammers on the platform.
