Have you ever really wanted a Krispy Kreme Inc DNU Donut but was too far from one of his locations to get one? McDonald’s Corp MCD partners with Krispy Kreme to sell donuts as part of a menu test.
According to CNBC, nine McDonald’s locations in Louisville, Kentucky will start selling Krispy Kreme donuts later this month. Krispy Kreme stock rose about 6% on the news before shedding some gains. The stock was trading around $13.20 on Tuesday afternoon.
McDonald’s mostly sticks to the classics: French fries, Big Macs and McFlurries. But the fast-food giant has proven it’s willing to experiment with new menu items. In recent years, McDonald’s has released a revamped chicken sandwich to compete with Chick-fil-A and Popeyes.
McDonald’s may be trying to add sweet alternatives like Krispy Kreme donuts to its current breakfast menu. The donut maker also distributes and sells its donuts in various grocery chains such as: Kroger Co KR and partnering with McDonald’s could definitely help Krispy Kreme expand its reach.
The partnership between McDonald’s and Krispy Kreme doesn’t help make McDonald’s menu healthier. Look, nobody’s going to confuse McDonald’s with whole foods, but the fast-food chain has taken steps over the past 20 years to make its menu healthier, including eliminating oversized portions and expanding fruit and vegetable choices. Krispy Kreme’s donuts certainly won’t complement McDonald’s nutritious offerings.
