What happened: About 1 million residents of Zhongyuan District have been asked to stay at home from Monday except if they have to undergo a COVID test, while non-essential shops have also been closed, reported Bloomberg, citing a government announcement.

The city reported six new local cases Sunday, down from a recent peak of 40 on Oct. 9, the report said.
While China’s key cities have so far avoided large-scale lockdowns, officials have quietly halted a growing list of activities, the report said.
According to parents and social media posts, many schools in Shanghai have suspended in-person classes over fears of spreading the infection, the report said. Last week, Tianjin announced a district lockdown Canton Close schools in one area.
