South Carolina is one of the few states where both medical and recreational cannabis is still illegal.
The last attempt at political reform fell through in May when the South Carolina House found a way to do it kill seven years of efforts to enact what was considered that the most restrictive medical cannabis law in the country. legislature eliminates the measure for technical reasons via sales tax.
gubernatorial candidate Joe Cunningham (D) condemned Gov. Henry McMaster (R) and the state legislature after the decision.
“Gov. McMaster and his allies in the Legislature could screw up a two-car parade. This is a historic failure by this governor’s leadership and lawmakers to pass a watered-down version of the most conservative medical marijuana law in the country. ‘ Cunningham said in a statement. “If Henry McMaster had wanted this law passed, it would have been passed a long time ago. But the reality is that he doesn’t support this bill, and he never did.”
Shortly thereafter, Cunningham won the Democratic nomination for governor. Since then, he’s made several promises, including legalizing recreational marijuana and sports betting. He also repeated this several times more than three decades between him and McMaster, who is running for a second term.
In a recent press conference, Cunningham said called McMaster a blocker on the legalization of medical and recreational marijuana, adding that his thinking is “outdated and unpopular” in addition to hurting veteransreported mail and courier.
Cunningham added that McMaster’s disinterest in either topic is outdated, making marijuana out of reach as an alternative for those suffering from PTSD.
