South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol condemned Pyongyang’s actions, saying Kim had “carried out indiscriminate provocations” and promised to develop “watertight countermeasures”.

This came hours later South Korea launched its warplanes when 10 North Korean warplanes were spotted near its border.

South Korea said the North Korean planes were spotted flying about 25 km north of the military demarcation line in the central region of the border area.

The South Korean air force “performed an emergency response operation with its superior air force, including the F-35A, and maintained a response posture while performing a proportional response maneuver equivalent to the flight of a North Korean military aircraft,” the joint chiefs of staff said.
