SUNNYVALE, Calif. Oct. 06, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — In an industry first, Matterport, Inc. MTTR worked with the Emmy Award-winning creative director David Korins and hyperrealist artist Robin Elleyto create an immersive 3D experience of their limited exhibition in New York City, Private collection/closed for installation. The collaboration marks the first time an immersive digital twin has been launched alongside the opening of an art gallery.
Available on RobinEley.comthe exhibition features 18 of the greatest works of art hidden from the public eye, either lost, stolen or held in private collections. Armed with the new Pro3 camera, the Matterport Capture Services team captured the entire physical gallery – working their way through challenging perspectives and detail of the artwork – and created the fully detailed mockup in 24 hours.
“One of the main themes of this exhibition was the limited access and high privilege of experiencing art. As an artist, it was important to me to give access to fans who couldn’t be physically here in NYC,” Eley said. “Photos and videos are great, but they are taken from the photographer’s point of view. Matterport’s digital twin lets viewers explore from their own perspective, as if they were there in person. To be able to launch this twin parallel to the physical gallery is groundbreaking and opens up so many new creative possibilities.”
Using the new guided tour and tagging tools available on Matterport’s Digital Twin platform, visitors can explore artworks, delve into their stories through embedded text and links, and exit through the gift shop. The digital twin was visited almost 2.5 times more often than the physical gallery. Additionally, content promoting the digital twin generated the highest engagement on Eley’s social channels as online audiences entered the exhibition to show their support.
