Why it matters: Snowden shared a Politico report on Sunday, who, citing people familiar with the matter, said the White House is likely to release an executive order on transatlantic data transfers next week.
Once the order is published, it will lead to a ratification process by the European Commission According to reports, this will take up to six months.
Negotiations for the deal began in 2020 after judges in the EU unraveled the so-called Privacy Shield, fearing it could not adequately protect Europeans from US surveillance, Politico reported.
