Apple News readers then receive “obscene, racist” push notifications – Press Release

Apple Inc AAPL Message service users were then shown two “obscene and racist” push notifications Fast companya financial publication, was hacked.
What happened: Apple News said on Twitter: “An incredibly offensive alert was sent by Fast Company, which has been hacked. Apple News has deactivated her channel.”

Fast Company tweeted a statement that its content management system was hacked Tuesday night.

“As a result, two obscene and racist push notifications were sent to our Apple News followers about a minute apart. The messages are abhorrent and do not reflect Fast Company’s content and ethos.”

The editor said it is investigating the situation and has shut down the Fastcompany.com website until “the situation is resolved.”

Benzinga verified that the website displayed a “404 Not Found” message at 1:41 am EDT.

Why it matters: Fast Company said the hack followed a similar attack on its website, when “similar phrases” appeared on the company’s homepage and other sites.

The publication had shut down the site at the time and restored it about two hours later. It apologized to “everyone who saw the messages” before removing them.
