Global bioenergies: Successful completion of REW FUEL Project
Paris, 22 September 2022 – Global bioenergies announces the end REW FUEL Project that ran from June 1, 2018 to June 30, 2022. This project brought together several European industries like resol, secab and Fibenol, with the aim of demonstrating the transformation of wood residuess to sustainable high-performance components for road and aviation fuels, and thus Participate in decarbonization efforts in ground and air transport. The project was coordinated by Global bioenergies and received 13.8 million euros in funding from the European Union Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Program.
The project, also known by its full name ‘Residual Wood Conversion to High-performance drop-in Biofuels’, has received funding from the Innovation and Networks Executive Agency (INEA) under Contract No. 792104. Next to Global bioenergiesrep, secab and Fibenolalso involved in the project SkyNOG, Peab, nests, IPSB, Technip FMC, metex NoovistaGo and the energy institute JKU.
Sugars made from wood were supplied by Sekab and Fibenol for this project.
Tino Lassmann, project manager at Sekab, said: “Our second-generation sugar production technology is considered one of the best in the world, especially when it comes to the raw material wood. We believe in its many values and opportunities as a way forward. We are proud to have been part of REWOFUEL along with other leading players in the European bioeconomy and we will continue working together for a more sustainable world.”
Peep Pitk, Chief Development Officer at Fibenol, said: “We are impressed with the performance of Global Bioenergies’ bio-isobutene process with our wood sugar. From 2023 we will be producing this wood sugar with a capacity of 20,000 tons per year at our plant in Imavere, Estonia and look forward to taking this collaboration to the next level.”
These sugars were then processed into high-performance sugars…
