PayPal Holdings Inc. PYPL co-founder Peter Thiel — a big supporter of the former president donald trump – Honored Governor of Florida Ron DeSantis in a recent speech.
What happened: Thiel, speaking at the National Conservatism Conference, praised DeSantis and Florida and, according to a. California, his home state report from Business Insider.
“DeSantis in Florida is probably the best of the governors when it comes to offering a real alternative to California.” He said, “The temptation on our side will always be that we just have to say we’re not California.”
Thiel painted an “ugly picture” of California, saying that “people are pooping everywhere” and bemoaning alleged “crazy woke people” in the state.

Why it matters: The businessman warned other conservatives that bashing the state is as easy as “shooting fish in a barrel” and urged Republicans to adopt a more positive agenda, the report said.
He said that criticizing California might be enough to win elections in the short term, but “we want to have more of a positive program vision, something like that, to be credible.”
Remarkably, Thiel was one of the main supporters of donald trump and vocally criticized Silicon Valley for not keeping its promises.
A member of the “PayPal mafia” — Tesla Inc. TSLA chairman Elon Musk – also spoke up DeSantis support as his preferred candidate for the 2024 presidential election.
