US District Court Judge Aileen cannon ordered Monday to stop the review Documents confiscated from the former President Donald Trump’s Residence Mar-a-Lago and also approved the appointment of a special master.
What happened: That The court authorized the appointment of a special master to inspect the confiscated property, Cannon said in a 24-page order issued on Labor Day.
The court temporarily barred the government from reviewing and using the seized materials for investigative purposes pending the completion of the special master’s review or further court order, the ruling said.
The court also required Trump and the Justice Department to draft and file a joint application that included a list of proposed special master candidates and a detailed proposed order of appointment that mentioned the special master’s duties and limitations.
Any substantive disagreements should be identified in the joint filing, the court said. It also reserves the right to rule on Trump’s request for the return of property pending further reviews.
Incidentally, Cannon was appointed by Trump and confirmed a week after the former president’s defeat in the 2020 election, Politico reported.

“Because this involves an injunction against investigations, the DOJ can and should appeal,” he said on Twitter.
Andrew Weissmana former Assistant US Attorney and member of the Special Counsel’s team Robert Muellers Investigating Trump’s Russian ties, said the U.S. District Court’s decision put the DoJ in the “indefensible position to appeal a clearly wrong decision and endure the unknown delay.”
