Serena Williamsarguably the greatest tennis player of all time, has dominated the sport for the last several decades.
In August, she announced her retirement from the sport to focus on raising a family.
That Nike Inc. NKE sponsored tennis legend ends with a career record of 855-153 in singles tennis and a 192-34 record in doubles, and won around 85% of her career games. Williams will finish her career with 73 singles titles; 23 doubles titles; 23 singles Grand Slam titles; and 14 Grand Slam doubles titles.
Here are five things you might not know about Serena Williams on and off the court.
Depicted in the biopic: In 2021, the biopic film Being Richard was released Warner Bros. Discovery WBD. The film told the story of Serena, sister Venus Williams and your family. The film marked Will Smith play their father and coach Richard Williams. The Williams served as executive producers on the film and helped get the story right.
“People got the story wrong or the media portrayed my father in an untrue light. We want to get this story right,” Williams said of the shoot. “I think it was a great opportunity to see how great African American dads are.”
The film recorded $15.1 million domestically and $39.4 million worldwide and was later released on streaming platform HBO Max.
Being Richard was critically acclaimed and nominated for six Academy Awards and four Golden Globes. The film earned Smith an Oscar for Best Actor.
