Between July 31stSt and 2.8ndOn May 15, 2022, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Shaanxi Province held an online event titled “Recognize That Hero” on social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. During this event, fans were invited to make terracotta warrior puzzles. Shaanxi’s deep cultural accumulation and its achievements in protecting cultural heritage were presented to the world in a vivid and entertaining way.
The “Recognize That Hero” event started with a “group photo” of Terracotta Warriors and offered fans the opportunity to better understand Terracotta Warriors through the use of jigsaw puzzles. Lifelike terracotta warriors in various poses and the professionalism and efforts of archaeologists are shown to the world. Despite being buried underground for over 2,000 years, Terracotta Warriors have never been forgotten. It is the archaeologists’ hard work over decades that has brought the remote but glorious Qin civilization back to life.
In the following two days, puzzles with pictures of a low-ranking military officer and sculptures of a high-ranking military officer were released one after the other. The beard, wrinkles and facial expression of the sculpture of the senior officer are so vivid that it seems to have traveled through time from the Qin Dynasty. Its graceful, calm appearance, unique to the people of the Qin Dynasty, manifests the superb craftsmanship of Qin craftsmen.
While playing the puzzle game, fans could also appreciate the deep history and culture of Shaanxi by learning about the hairstyles and the hair accessories like long hats with a board and more He Feather caps of the military officer sculptures displayed on the social media platforms by the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism.
