DENVER, June 22, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The social concept of gender has existed around the world for centuries, but perceptions of what is male or female typically change from culture to culture. However, those who do not adhere to the generally accepted definitions of gender roles are often confronted with exclusion, indifference or even hatred.
There is biological factors that determine sex, including chromosomes, hormones and genitals. However, gender is determined by a person’s inner feelings called gender identity and how they express their gender through their outward appearance is called gender expression. While one’s gender is linked to biology, there is the distinction between male and female, Gender is a social idea.
“We should look at gender as a spectrum, and a person’s gender is really only theirs to determine,” said Neil Lequia, founder and current CEO of The full spectrum, a non-profit organization supporting the LGBTQ+ cannabis industry and community. “We should encourage everyone to break away from societal norms when those norms don’t reflect their personal experiences. By doing so, we enable individuals to feel fully comfortable manifesting their gender identity through their gender expression. This creates a world where everyone’s full potential can be realised. But we know it’s not always easy to understand what can feel like a foreign or uncomfortable concept of gender. So we’ve come together in the spirit of LGBTQ+ Pride Month Creative cannabis movement educate about gender identity and expression.”
