Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran khan took a seat in the opening ceremony during China’s four-day visit. Beijing National Stadium hosted this opening event of the Winter Olympics 2022. PM arrived in China yesterday with the delegation for meetings with the Chinese Government. PM delegation included Information Minister, Foreign Minister, and Planning and development minister.
Opening Ceremony
According to the Chinese calendar, a ceremony is held on the first day of the spring season. The opening ceremony started after the entry of Chines President Xi Jinping and International Olympic Committee Chairperson Thomas Bach. It began with the dance with green stalks as a symbol of a diversified season. The explosion of white and green fireworks depicted the spring season. The ice hockey player split the three-dimensional block, scattered throughout the ring colored with white. Parade of Nations took place by the 91 delegations participating in this mega event. Greece led the parade keeping the Olympics tradition alive, followed by Turkey. The entry of China, Hong Kong, and the Russian delegation got massive appreciation from the spectators. Pakistan’s board is represented by the four members in the winter Olympics. PM and his government officials stood from their seats with other audiences to welcome the Pakistan athletes waving the National flag with enthusiasm.
Reports revealed that around 3000 athletes of 91 Nations would participate in this contest. US, Canada, Australia, and Japan boycotted Beijing’s Olympics due to the cold war with China. These countries did not participate in this Olympics due to China’s human rights issues. The US shifted its foreign policy to contain China growing influence. Washington declared agreements like AUKUS with the UK and Australia to pressure the Chinese in the Indo-Pacific Sea. Chinese emphasized the global powers to keep the sports away from the cold war. US-China relations fell into containment policy. US-backed Taiwan in Taiwan-China tensions stating the annexation of Taiwan illegal.
After the beginning of the ceremony, China flag waved in the ceremony representing 56 ethnic groups living in the Republic of China. This whole event took place under the restrictions of covid 19. The organizers limited the sale of tickets due to risk of covid 19. Three thousand performers outclassed the ceremony with their amazing performance. All the performers were hired from China provinces like Beijing and Hebei.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, a highly influenced political figure, attended the event without a mask. Russian delegations did not wave the Russian flag due to doping violations, entered with the Russian Olympic Committee.
Beijing’s Olympics will be held under strict measures of a pandemic. The Olympics will end on 24 Feb 2022. Competitors of different nations will decide the fate of 109 medals.
