Two years ago, in a similar case, Marc M.Keyser was questioned and warned by the FBI agents not to indulge in illegal actions and is again arrested on similar charges of mailing 120 hoax letters claiming to contain anthrax according to the documents filed in the court.
Keyser is 66 years old and has been an active education and AIDS activist. He was subjected to previous probes by enforcement. In January 2007, he had been warned when he sent a cylinder marked anthrax to a News and Review office in Sacramento. He claimed that he did this as he wanted to publicize his novel according to a US District Court filed complaint.
He was however not arrested then and when new packages started appearing at the media, Keyser was visited by the FBI agents and he admitted to have sent them. He also handed over 11 unmailed letters from his vehicle the document states.
Even as Keyser was being questioned at his residence, hazardous material crew rushed to the US Rep.George Radanovich’s office where one of the packets had been opened according to Filip Colfescu, an FBI special agent’s affidavit.
In the year 2007 Keyser was warned and the FBI told him that his actions were disrupting operations in these organizations. He apologized and promised not to repeat his actions. However the past week saw him embarking on a larger crusade mailing hoax anthrax letters to all major media offices countrywide from one of the main post offices in Sacramento.
