HM King Mohammed VI is paying a working and friendship visit to the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, third leg of an African tour that led the sovereign to Senegal and Guinea-Bissau, and will take him also to Gabon.

On this occasion, HM King Mohammed VI launched, on Tuesday, June 2, in Abidjan the building works of a fish unloading site in Grand Lahou, for a total budget of 20 million dirhams.

The project, financed by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Sustainable Development in the amount of 13 million dirhams and the Fisheries Department (7 million dirhams), is part of South-South cooperation and reflects the strong friendship ties between Morocco and Côte d’Ivoire.

This project, which will be built on an area of 3000 sq.m, is meant to improve the working conditions of local fishermen.

Located 150 km west of Abidjan, on the road to San Pedro, the project also demonstrates the commitment of Côte d’Ivoire to encourage infrastructure development in the fisheries sector, thereby creating jobs while relieving congestion in and around Abidjan.

Fishing sites located in Grand Lahou house 550 canoes, 2,790 fishermen, 1,200 fishmongers and produce about 1,950 tons of fish and shellfish.

HM King Mohammed VI also launched, on Tuesday, in Yopougon  (Abidjan)  the building works of a training center in construction and tourism, for a total budget of 55 million dirhams.

Spanning over an area of 3 hectares, the center will provide vocational training in construction and public works sectors, as well as tourism, hotel and catering.

It will meet the needs of economic operators in skilled human resources, enhance the employability of young people and promote their professional integration and ensure support for major social and economic development projects undertaken by Côte d’Ivoire.

The complex will include two training courses with a capacity of more than 1,000 trainees, distributed as follows: 12 courses related to the construction sector with a capacity of 600 trainees and 9 others related to tourism, hotels and catering, with a capacity of 400 students.

The training in this complex will be provided by 28 trainers, including 16 for construction and 12 for tourism, hotels and catering.

As to the duration of training, it will last from one to two years, depending on the selected training course. The center is expected to open its doors in October 2016.

In addition, HM King Mohammed VI handed, Tuesday at the University Hospital Center of Yopougon in Abidjan, a donation of two tons of medicines to the Ivorian Anti-Aids Program.

The royal donation, offered by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Sustainable Development, is fully in line with the vision of HM King Mohammed VI, who endeavors to provide a humanist content to Morocco’s solidarity with African countries and South-South cooperation, through the launch of a host of programs to assist disadvantaged populations of the continent.

This royal donation is composed of two tons of medicines to treat opportunistic diseases and infections associated with AIDS. The lot includes three families of drugs, i.e. 800 boxes of antiviral drugs, 10,700 boxes of antibacterial drugs and 22,400 boxes of antifungal drugs.

The royal donation, which gives a human dimension to the royal visit to Côte d’Ivoire, is another consecration of the fruitful and exemplary cooperation between Morocco and Côte d’Ivoire in the field of health and medical and paramedical training.

It also reflects the determination of the Sovereign to contribute to the progress and prosperity of the brotherly Ivorian people, the establishment of a strategic, multifaceted and determined partnership between the two countries, and the mobilization of the full potential to achieve the objectives of sustainable human development in this brotherly and friendly country.
