The Dallas Angel Network (http://www.dallasangelnetwork.com), a collective of bright-minded entrepreneurs and investors that help procure capital to innovate the growth of the companies in which they are vested in, has recently ignited passion in a very intimate setting under the rarest of monikers. The event was held at the beautiful home of Joe B. Garza – a well known asset protection and tax attorney from Dallas (Garza & Harris), and featured internationally acclaimed violinist, Gary Levinson, who was reunited with a previously missing and priceless 1727 Stradivarius. Levinson delivered a special performance for the ages by performing a violin piece called “Oracle,” which was composed by the respected Victoria Bond.
“I played a movement of a Bach’s ‘Sonata in C Major’ for solo violin, and another solo violin piece called ‘Oracle’ by American composer Victoria Bond,” Levinson said of his evening set list. He further added, “The song, ‘Oracle,’ written and dedicated to me by the composer (Bond), initially premiered in 2009 at the Thalia Theater in New York. It was inspired by the Oracle at Delphi which (in ancient Greece) was a holy place capable of validating major decisions from warfare to politics.”
The 1727 Stradivarius had earlier gone missing, the subject of a theft. However, it later turned up 20 years after the fact at an auction house and was recovered. Now reunited with the famous violinist who made it come to life so many times before for packed crowds at various venues, the sequin notes of Bach’s “Sonata in C Major” and Bond’s “Oracle” permeated the room at this event; as so brilliantly performed by Levinson.
The musical choices by Levinson are, perhaps, colloquial to the very credence of The Angel Network—which describes its mission to “link entrepreneurs with angel investors in a transparent environment conducive to funding startups. As a non-profit organization, The Dallas Angel Network assists entrepreneurs in becoming ‘pitch ready’ and ensures that angels see a constant flow of investment ready deals, and guides each deal from ‘pitch’ to close.”
The recently recovered Stradivarius had its own epistemology, too—a close to heart experience for Levinson.
“It’s a golden-period Strad and the most distinctive feature is that it’s in tremendous condition,” Levinson told The Dallas Morning News in a related interview. “Wherever it’s been for 20 years, it’s certainly not been abused. In terms of tonal color and response time — and just being able to play the instrument — it’s an incredible world that other instruments just don’t let you into. I can play the same phrase 50 times and discover 50 different colors.”
