‘Four Seasons for Charlotte’ is a valuable resource for families dealing with childhood disease

However, Rachel Reynolds wrote “Four Seasons for Charlotte: A Parents Year with Pediatric Cancer” to help so many other families struggling with health challenges while raising a small child.
When Charlotte was born, the Reynolds family enjoyed the typical joys of being first-time parents—until Charlotte was diagnosed with a brain tumor when she was just three years old. In this book, the author bravely recounts the confusing and frustrating cycle of diagnosis, treatment, and aftercare of a child with cancer. The book also provides some valuable lessons learned when dealing with the often-overwhelming red tape and medial jargon that the parents of an ill child must navigate.
According to the American Cancer Society, approximately 12,060 children in the United States under the age of 15 will be diagnosed with cancer this year. Unfortunately, the rates have been rising for the past few decades. Thanks to major advancements, about 80% of these children survive 5 years or more, which is a huge increase over just a few years ago.
The Reynolds family fought valiantly for their child, but once her death was imminent they set off on a celebration of her life and made sure she was able to have some amazing experiences. After Charlotte’s death, she and her husband created the CJS Thumbs Up Foundation (CJSTUF) to raise money for other families struggling with childhood medical issues.
