/EINPresswire.com/ Staff at The Funding Corporation are to be paid and thanked for not turning up to work – so long as they spend the day with their sleeves rolled up helping a national or local charity.
The major motor finance group has announced a new Employee Volunteer Programme aimed at encouraging staff to get involved at the sharp end of charity work.
From this month, each employee will be allowed to take one day off every year to give hands-on help to either a local good cause, or the motor industry charity BEN.
Inspiration for the scheme came from a staff survey and the group’s charity committee whose role is to find new ways of assisting caring organisations nominated by employees.
In the past year, sponsored activities – including staff having their cars washed by directors, a zip-wire challenge, and a teddy bear beauty contest – raised more than £8,000 for charity.
Although the new volunteer scheme will represent a significant cost to The Funding Corporation, Managing Director David Challinor believes the return on investment will be very worthwhile:
“For the charities concerned, they will gain potentially hundreds of days of volunteer work each year to assist with a whole range of tasks that are essential to their activities,” he said.
“But I am certain that our staff will also profit from their experiences – not least because they will gain an insight to the different types of challenges faced in a non-commercial environment.
“As such, this will also be a learning opportunity which could help them see their existing roles in a new perspective, and bring fresh thinking to how their goals can be achieved.
“At the very least, a day out of the office getting involved with the nitty-gritty of charity work is going to produce a feel-good factor and a decent night’s sleep!” added Mr Challinor.
The Funding Corporation, which employs 200-plus staff, specialises in providing motor finance for individuals who have had difficulty in obtaining loans from banks and mainstream lenders.
The group lends exclusively against used cars supplied by its member company ACF Car Finance which has a national network of car showrooms close to major centres of population.
